The Smart Pills formed in New York City during January 1978 in the hay day of New York's infamous underground punk rock scene. In early 1979 the Smart Pills moved to Topeka, Kansas and were the first punk rock band to play in Kansas. "SMART PILLS - Live in Kansas 1979" is a collection of those early live performances in Lawrence and Topeka, Kansas. The double CD includes 15 original songs and 9 covers. The Smart Pills lived and played in Kansas for only six months before relocating to Hollywood, CA were they went on to become part of the early Los Angeles punk rock scene playing shows at the Masque, Hong Kong Cafe, Kings Palace, the Troubadour, Gazzarri's, Club 88 and others. In late 1979 the Smart Pills disbanded. In 1980, Vince Conrad and Git Smart went on to pursue solo projects with Casablanca Records and Bomp Records, respectively.
